Introducing our Annual Exhibition May 2025, in the café space in Rua Red, South Dublin Arts centre.
The theme for this year’s annual exhibition is animal sanctuary.
Over the past year I’ve been volunteering with the wonderful and dedicated people in My Lovely Pig Rescue, and in Kildare Wildlife Rescue. I’ve learnt so much and the children have been so interested and enthralled by my tales of what I’ve been up to, that I thought they might enjoy having some fun with the idea of animal rescue and sanctuary.
They’ve taken the idea and really let their creative juices flow. The classes from each day will combine their ideas to create what they consider to be the ultimate animal sanctuary. All the children will work together to create a very large painting of the sanctuary, and then each of them will have their own window, to illustrate what is happening inside. There will be 4 huge paintings, one each for the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday classes.
To date we have had dinosaurs having a manicure, climbing walls for monkeys, helipads on the roof for emergency landings, piped and live music for all to listen to, the occasional disco and cinema screenings, waterfalls and fountains for drinking from and for bathing in, trampolines, ball pits, water slides for fun, and for a little luxury, there are bee zones and bug hotels, underground hotels for animals that burrow, and underwater hotels for fish.
The children will be exhibiting some 3D art too, and will be using MODROC this time around. This will allow the Doodle Buddies in particular, to add much finer attachments than they have been able to do with clay, and hopefully they will be able to create some four legged standing animals. MODROC is messy, but fun, and the results are much more immediate than using clay.
All of the Doodle Box team is excited for the exhibition this year, and work begins in earnest in February for the exhibition.
We are still accepting new students this term, (until the mid term break) so please get in touch if you would like a place for your young artist. The final term of this academic year will start after Easter and will run until the end of June. Details for this term will be released shortly and booking will open in April. The summer term is always a whole lot of fun, there will be drawing, painting, mixed media and clay projects to look forward to.
